Resume

The myth of modern fairytale has established a place in society that has created a vocabulary that perpetuates a falsehood within contemporary culture. It is a vocabulary that has progressed into an unspoken vernacular of social expectations, desires and ideals rooted deeply in the socialization of female identity. My questions evolve from ideals that do not exist. Where do ideals come from and what are the expectations that they propose? How do they so effectively create desire and a longing to be a part of something that does not exist, a want to be part of a myth? My work is a reaction to the psychological consequences of trying to reconcile conflict between fantasy and reality.

I am currently working on paper, creating three-dimensional wall installations as well as sculpture. I am interested in a simple yet intense palette; I use shadow to allude to self-reflection and then make three-dimensional objects to create an environment that invites physical interaction with the viewer.

My intent as an artist is to create empathy and to voice concern for what is repeatedly engrained in the minds of girls, of women. I hope my work creates pause and reflection as well as a sense of wonderment regarding one's own identity and how and who has formed it.
